Iain's 23kg Cuta breaks Record at Green Point

Got in at Green point on Friday morning with Burnsie. In the water before sun up and swam out of the north side of the point! Mistake, screaming south north currant, hard work to stay on the spot. 6m vis and temp 24C so good conditions.

Went out to around 15m depth and alternated pulling flasher. I had just shot a rockie and hadn’t reloaded when a shoal of iggi’s came into view, reloadad and dropped down to 5m squeezed of a shot and was into a the biggest one in the shoal. Not for long!! Hahah Onto reef and out popped my spear, Burnsie was not happy as he was lining up a buss snoek as I shot and spooked everything!

Carried on with the flasher for another hour till we where to hammered manning the flasher. So it was bugging time. There are a lot of spiny critters there. Sean got a very nice cave bass. We where out the water at 8:30.

So we decided to head south and drift back with the currant. Walked two km’s down the beach after dumping the cray bags and nets it was a lot easer to move in the water and not as much energy. Went deep! Pulled the flasher like, like a school boy pulls his Cyclops! We both rushed shots and some very big snoek. I had taken out the cannon, new rubber and shorted, so loading it was
painfull. Drifted and got into a rythem of down for two working the
flasher for two. All ways good to dive with some one you know. we where off green point, about a k, over sand. I was on the bottom in 20m of water rolling over on my back looking up at the flasher chilling, back facing the sand and there it was…… I kaked myself rushed and off moved the cuda, so I slowed down and swam as if to go behind him. He turned broad side and I squeezed off a shot. After two very strong runs, which streched the 2m boingi and had us swimming back into the currant, I decended down to my gun and was reaching towards the tail, good solid shot, I senced movement to my right, Burnsie very kindly eased up to the cude and finished him with a brain shot. Thanks boet. Got the gear sorted out and back onto the flasher for another 45min. Sean got off another shot at a cuda, but we where passed the pointso headed in. Good mornings hall. Have a good day
